After years of being told that probiotics were necessary for gut health now come several new research studies that say they may not be as beneficial as previously thought. Or maybe they can be beneficial, but only through a personalized approach as everyone’s gut bacteria is different. Introducing the wrong gut bacteria might even be harmful.

The researchers found the microbiomes of those who had taken the probiotics had suffered a “very severe disturbance”.
