Many successful people claim they have trained themselves to be productive with far less sleep than is normal. But this “sleep braggadocio” is toxic, the author of this article claims. While there are a few of us who are genetically blessed to need less sleep, for most of us losing sleep is catastrophic to both productivity and health.
According to sleep researcher David Dinges, his experiments show that it’s impossible for most of us to survive, much less thrive, on four hours of sleep per night. Therefore there’s nothing for you to feel guilty about if you don’t work late into the night and then wake at 4 a.m. And for those who are just trying to get enough sleep – know that shut eye is essential, not a luxury.
Science doesn’t back up the claims that so many CEOs claim to be just as effective and healthy getting just a few hours of sleep every night.
