Dirt isn’t something I expected to be talking about in relationship to women’s eating. But there are new indications that surprisingly dirt, as in soil, plays an important role in anxiety.
We know that spending time in nature is health inducing due to it’s psychological calming, but there may be more going on. It turns out that dirt has healing properties. In particular one bacterium has been identified containing a kind of fat with anti-inflammatory and stress busting effects.
As human have moved away from rural existence and farming anxiety has increased. This may be part of the reason. If nothing else it’s a good reason to get your hands in dirt in the garden.
