The two main ways that supplements cause risk is by containing dangerous ingredients that are not on the label or through creating a dangerous combination with other supplements or medicine.
Creatine use for muscle building was specifically called out for contribution to dehydration. Even in adults this supplement is suspected to be a cause of kidney and liver damage, but it’s use in teens has no research for safety.
Teen danger from supplement use is heightened by their tendency to blow off symptoms and to not follow dosage instructions.
