In this nutritional consult, UK nutritionist Angelique Panagos helps a self described “emotional eater” take steps toward making better food choices.
Her advice includes stop counting calories, don’t eat anything you don’t enjoy, and understand that changing your eating takes time.
While counting calories can definitely help you lose weight – and make you realise the amount of calories in your favourite foods – it can also lead to an unhealthy relationship with food, the exact thing I am trying to steer away from. Angelique explained: “While portion size is important, the paradigm of solely focussing on calories in vs calories out is outdated, yet many of the diet culture messages encourage it. Research shows us that it’s the quality and nutrient density of the food that plays the biggest role.
